My goal is to inspire and give you that little nudge you may need, to finally book that trip you’ve always wanted to take!

Here is how this blog came to be...

We had just returned from a trip that I spent months (actually, 1 yr) planning.  No person needs to spend anything close to that amount of time, but heck I had the time. Just like many other people, we hadn’t been out of the country in over 2yrs (yes, because of covid) and I love, love, love, the whole process of researching and planning our trips!

We were beyond excited to go and thrilled to be finally travelling again. To be walking around and inhaling new scents, sitting at cafés listening to different languages and looking at amazing architecture imagining a time that once was.  All this evoked an enthusiasm and eagerness to do and see more! We wanted to find a way to archive our travels and share them with friends and family. The idea of creating a travel blog had been swirling around in my mind for a few years. finally, the timing felt right… Sooooo I decided to gather all the things that make me happy, saddle up and put this baby into motion!

It was hard to decipher how many blogs are enough… how many do we need before launching Flying Suitcases? Well, my friend Nita said to me one evening during book club “Don’t worry about it, just get the shit out the door!”  That was some sound advice, so here we are!

I’ve always had a curiosity about people and a desire for meaningful interactions. Because of this curiosity, I have met some amazing people and learnt a lot along the way. While visiting new places, I am constantly reminded of how many good, genuine people exist in the world. I want to encourage people to get out there and see for themselves!

We met this amazing human at our hotel rooftop bar one evening in Sevilla, Spain. Tyler especially liked his shirt, and tried to get him to trade with the one he was wearing (joking of course). This opened up a whole dialogue and we ended up hanging out with him for the entire evening. He brought us to a bar his friend was working at, and introduced us to so many people. His English wasn’t the greatest and our Spanish was subpar, but we made a connection of the heart and had so much fun, communicating and sharing our cultures with one another. These random interactions are a huge reason we travel!

To leave the comforts of your home and country can feel a bit scary. The truth is, I too can be nervous about going to new places. My parents like to say that I’ve always been confident and fearless. This is far from true. I just believe in the whole “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway” theory. Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway is a great book by the Author- Susan Jeffers, Ph.D. I read that book in my early 20s and it has encouraged me throughout my life to take risks. I would have missed out on so much in life if I didn’t learn to embrace fear and use it as a tool for growth. Some of these risks have imparted a confidence that encourages me to do the things that bring me joy.

I think this says it all! We want to grab life by the horns and ride the wave!

This man has been by my side and my partner in crime since 2004. When I met him, his friends said he was a “yes man”, meaning he was up for trying anything! I think this is a big part of why we are life mates. I have crazy ideas of what and where I want to go, and he is always up for the adventure! He also has the hugest heart and is super hunky!

I’ll be writing the blogs, and this guy here is my right-hand man, editor in chief and the one putting everything into the website. Honestly, I lack the patience for a lot of the techie stuff, so he is the man when it comes to all that!

I feel in the zone when researching our trips!  Planning and booking all the details for our travels is my jam!  I have my fingers crossed that I can answer questions that your looking for, and that you gain some confidence to make the adventure happen for yourself!

We’ve only scratched the surface. What waits around the next corner is what excites me and I’m looking forward to sharing all I can with you!

I believe in being true to myself and only speaking the truth to others. Everything I write about will be our honest opinions. I feel like we are real people and I hope this will resonate with you throughout these blogs.

We support all religions, ethnicities and the LGBTQ community. Followers are nice, but our values supersede all!

We are new to this endeavour and hope you will be kind and patient with us as we learn to navigate the world of blogging.

You will see at the end of all my blogs, that I write “Thanks for stopping by!”  My mom lives in Ontario and we live in British Columbia, so we don’t get to see each other as much as I would like… Because of this, we have a lot of phone dates. At the end of each call, my mom always says “Thanks for stopping by!”  This warms my heart, so I want to share it with all of you!

Thanks For Stopping By!
